Our Individualized Lactation Support

All Moms Can Benefit from Lactation Support

Even if breastfeeding is going smoothly for you and your new baby, you may benefit from a lactation support visit. Breastfeeding demands grow and change with your child and your family. Boost your confidence or refine your techniques with expert advice to maintain your good breastfeeding routine. A breastfeeding expert can help you navigate your unique breastfeeding journey.

Here are just a few reasons why lactation support can be useful for you:

Education and Guidance: Helping mothers understand the basics of breastfeeding, including positioning, latching techniques, and feeding frequency.

Equipment Advice: A visit with a lactation consultant is a good time to ask questions about breast pump options, pumping/nursing bras and other breastfeeding-related accessories.

Addressing Challenges: During your Sentido visit, a lactation consultant will work with you to find solutions to common breastfeeding concerns that are right for you. Whether you need help to increase your milk supply or find a more comfortable feeding position, checking in with a lactation expert may be just what you need.

Nutrition Advice: Your milk is the perfect food for your baby. Even though a special diet is not required for breastfeeding, a new baby is a great reason to think about making the best diet choices for yourself and your family.

Emotional Support: At Maternal Sentido, we are passionate about the well-being of babies and parents and our lactation staff are here to support your feeding plan.

Specialized Support: A premature baby, multiples or an infant with special needs often present challenges that can be managed with an individualized approach to breastfeeding.

Transitioning Back to Work: Lactation Consultants are helpful when you are ready to start planning for a smooth transition back to work or school.

The Importance of Breastfeeding

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends to breast feed your baby exclusively for the first 6 months of life and supports continued breastfeeding until two years or longer if desired by both mother and baby. Studies have shown that breast-fed babies have a lower risk of severe illness and when they get sick, symptoms tend to be less severe and shorter in duration, requiring less doctor visits.  The benefits continue for as long as a baby is breastfed.

Breastmilk also promotes healthy and adequate weight gain.  Breastmilk is unique in that its composition changes with the evolving needs of your growing baby.  Breastfeeding also promotes mother-baby bonding and is very soothing to baby which builds love and trust.
